Wags life...

Walgreens is one of my favorite places to shop as a couponer. It can be a little intimidating at first, but the Register Reward system is really quite simple. Here's my interpretation of how it works.

A Register Reward (RR) is a coupon that prints out from the Catalina machine at the time of purchase for a specified item. Some think of it as cash, others as manufacturer coupons. I view it as a "wildcard" coupon and don't consider it when figuring my out of pocket cost(OOP) of an item. My out of pocket cost is the actual money that comes out of my wallet after all my coupons.

I focus on purchasing items that offer the RR. Once I get one (or more) RR, I use them to purchase other items that offer RR. And so the cycle goes....

Register Reward coupons may or may not state the manufacturer or product that promoted the deal or it may just say "Thank You for your purchase". This is important info to know because a you can't use a RR from one manufacturer to purchase the same manufacturer again. You would lose or forfeit your RR and a new one won't print. You need to alternate manufacturers.

Another Thing to remember with Walgreen's is that you need to have the SAME number of coupons as items that you are purchasing. Ex: I am purchasing 3 items and I have a coupon for each. I also want to use a RR (wildcard coupon) with my purchase to bring my OOP as low as possible. The RR is considered in my coupon vs. Item count. That would mean I have 4 coupons and only 3 items. I would need to get a "filler" item to balance the count out. A filler can be anything: candy, pencil, ramen noodle. Walgreen's coupons don't figure into the count.
